History
We trace our roots back 130 years, to 1889, when H.F. Stapel formed the Missouri Farmers Mutual Tornado, Cyclone and Windstorm Insurance Company. This mutual insurance movement was new then, as East Coast insurance companies were unwilling to insure the risks of the New Frontier. We are proud of our deep history as a mutual insurance company.
Throughout our history, we have grown our operating territory, product offerings and more.
1935
We first established our Columbia, Missouri, roots, when Farmers Mutual Windstorm Insurance and Farmers Mutual Hail Insurance Company of Missouri moved from Rockport. This new location provided a more strategic location for our continued growth and expansion.
1951
We moved to a new, larger headquarters on the Business Loop 70 in Columbia, Missouri.
1975
We are moved our Home Office to our current location on White Gate Drive.
1983
We began writing commercial lines and joined the Arkansas marketplace.
1988
We established our branch office in Omaha, Nebraska, after acquiring National American Insurance Company of Nebraska.
1989
We created our company name, Company Insurance Group, and logo in celebration of our 100-year anniversary. The symbol within our logo is unique among insurance companies. It is a graphic presentation of a person holding an American flag, representing Everyman and Everywoman.
1991
We established our Atlanta Branch.
1992
We established our Kansas office in Olathe, but the office moved to Salina, its current location, the following year.
2001
We introduced the Pinnacle Agency program, offering additional benefits to reward elite agencies that demonstrate a commitment of sustained profitable growth with us.
2008
We established our Austin Branch after acquiring Association Casualty Insurance Company. We also expanded our footprint throughout the Southeast.
Today
Columbia Insurance Group proudly moves forward, building upon the strong foundation of our history. The three entities that comprise our family of companies are Association Casualty Insurance Company, Columbia Mutual Insurance Company, and Columbia National Insurance Company.
